On Us, the Latest effort from the Twin Cities’ Brother Ali has a story that must be told. The flow is characteristically Ali, but this song covers ground that Ali has not touched yet; the story of slavery in America. Both Ali’s lyrics and Ant’s haunting (marimba punctuated) production meet in the middle to create the aural equivalent of such a journey. The clincher is the second verse though, as Ali talks to the damaging effects that slavery and the lie of race have in our modern times.
